Anderson University taught me professionalism, compassion and time management, skills in which I am challenged daily to excel at Johns Hopkins Hospital. At AU I was mentored in the ways of compassionate nursing. The nursing department was intimate — there was always someone available to answer a question or discuss an issue. But the most impacting experience I had was the Intercultural Nursing trip to rural Honduras. The understanding I gained from that trip helps me to connect with my patients and to teach other nurses to be compassionate toward the Hispanic community. As a student, I balanced a heavy class load, clinicals and clinical preparation, as well as a part time job. Those experiences honed my time management skills and taught me how to conduct myself in word and deed in a manner worthy of the field. As I now juggle patients, physicians and the not so occasional crisis I am thankful for the preparation I received at AU.
