School of Nursing

Description of the program

Welcome to the website of Anderson University School of Nursing. We appreciate your interest in our undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. The undergraduate program leads to a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing, allowing the graduate to begin the practice of nursing as well as sit for the NCLEX (licensure) exam. At the graduate level, we offer a dual degree program combining nursing and business, leading to a MSN/MBA degree. At the present time we are exploring a second graduate degree in Health Ministries.

Mission

Our goal is to be a premier teaching university, with a Christian perspective integrated into its programs and the relationships between students, faculty and staff. At Anderson University, the average student/faculty ratio is 15:1 and in the nursing major the ratio is 11.5/1. These class sizes allow students to have small clinical groups and individualized instruction while in the clinical settings—a necessary component for developing a really good clinical practitioner.
By integrating the concept of Christian service in all of our instruction, graduates learn how to care for the spiritual needs of their clients. Basing our nursing practice on Biblical principles, students learn how to minister to a dying patient, resolve current moral issues being faced by the health care team, and address the needs of the uninsured. We discuss what it means to be a Christian servant.

Global education is an important component of both the BSN and MSN programs, with a required intercultural experience in the curriculums. Students have the opportunity to travel, at a reduced rate, to far away places providing nursing care to the citizens of that community. Students have traveled to places such as:

  • India-Mother Theresa’s Home of the Dying and Destitute
  • Heart to Honduras
  • Holt Children's Services-South Korea
  • Russia-School of Nursing
  • Hooverwood Center- Indianapolis
Both the undergraduate and graduate programs are accredited by the Indiana State Board of Nursing and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.  We invite you to visit our beautiful campus and meet the faculty and students of the School of Nursing.
