The faculty are the key to any history/political science program. At Anderson, the professors had recognized expertise in their disciplines and the ability to communicate that expertise to the students. One of the professors I spent considerable time with had studied under a Pulitzer Prize-winning historian. Almost all of my upper division classes were seminar-style, small groups taught by one of the professors in the department, similar to graduate school classes. I learned to evaluate a broad range of historical and political thought. I also had almost unlimited access to the professors, both in class and out of class.
Some Highlights
- Courses emphasize developing writing skills—are essential in law and graduate pursuits.
- Many students complete government, legal, or public service internships. Students have traveled as far as Ireland and Hong Kong.
- Internships are strongly encouraged; past students have traveled as far as Ireland and Hong Kong.
- AU is active in Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honor society.
- The department has distinguished and well-traveled faculty, including published authors, active historians, sought-after public speakers and a former member of the Foreign Service.
Unique Opportunities
Through the Center for Public Service (CPS), Fellows have opportunities to participate in professional conferences and internships in Washington, D.C., and across the country. CPS membership is highly competitive and open to all majors.
