Upon graduation students will…
- Demonstrate the basic skills and knowledge needed to provide competent health care to physically active and athletic populations.
1.1 demonstrate an understanding of the systems of the body and how each is effected by athletic competition and physical activity
1.2 demonstrate competence in the five (5) domains of athletic training
Domain 1: Injury/illness prevention and wellness protection
Domain 2: Clinical evaluation and diagnosis
Domain 3: Immediate and emergency care
Domain 4: Treatment and rehabilitation
Domain 5: Organizational and professional health and well-being
- Demonstrate effective problem-solving and critical thinking skills as they analyze, evaluate and synthesize effective policies and procedures for prevention and wellness, clinical evaluation, immediate and emergent care, and the treatment and rehabilitation of athletes and active individuals.
2.1 employ critical thing and problem solving skills in both emergent and non-emergent situations
2.2 exhibit a significant understanding of the processes of preventative care and the need to whole person wellness
- Effectively communicate both orally and in writing with a number of constituents associated with the athletic training profession. These include, but are not limited to; athletes, coaches, parents, active individuals, health care providers, allied health and sport professionals.
3.1 exhibit the ability to effectively communicate both formally and informally
3.2 demonstrate a large medical vocabulary so as to competently interact with physicians, researchers and all health care professionals.
3.3 exhibit the ability to effectively communicate when educating athletes, parents and sport personnel about injury, treatment options, rehabilitation, state practice acts/laws and other pertinent information.
- Demonstrate clinical competence in athletic training knowledge. Show competence in all clinical competencies and proficiencies as directed by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) - currently the fifth edition

- Become lifelong learners regarding the art and science of athletic training.
5.1 Exhibit an understanding of basic scientific and research methodologies and apply this research method to the evidenced-based practice of athletic training.
5.2 Participate in continuing education through BOC Approved Provider opportunities.
5.3 Embrace evidence-based practice as part of continued learning and professional understanding.
- Exhibits professionalism in athletic training. Will be individuals of character and integrity, and will possess a well-developed sense of justice and equality to all groups of people.
6.1 Attend state, regional and national conferences and workshops to improve athletic training skills.
6.2 Maintain all credentials; state licensure and national certification.
6.3 Remain free of disciplined by the professional licensing agency(s).
